How to use the tile installation materials calculator
- Measure the net floor or wall area that will receive tile.
- Keep or edit the visible material allowance.
- Open only the products you need: adhesive, grout, or membrane.
- Copy each package's coverage from the exact manufacturer documentation.
- Add package prices only when you want a partial material-cost estimate.
Formula
adjusted area = measured area × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)
exact packages = adjusted area ÷ entered package coverage
whole packages = round exact packages up once
product cost = whole packages × entered package priceEach selected product is calculated separately. Missing prices stay absent rather than silently becoming zero.
Worked example
A 200 ft² tile area with a 10% allowance becomes 220 ft². Adhesive covering 50 ft² per package requires 4.4 packages and rounds to 5. Grout covering 100 ft² requires 2.2 and rounds to 3. A membrane roll covering 108 ft² requires 2.037… and rounds to 3.
At $35, $25, and $120 per package, those three priced products total $610.
Product coverage and planning sources

Limits
This calculator does not select products, verify compatibility, compute coverage from trowel notch or joint geometry, or design waterproofing. It does not include overlaps, seams, corners, transitions, penetrations, substrate preparation, trim, spacers, tools, labor, tax, or delivery unless those needs are already reflected in your allowance and entered prices.

Use the exact product label, current technical data sheet, or manufacturer calculator. Do not borrow coverage from a similar product.

Why can the total cost be partial?
Only products with a price enter the total. Blank prices are deliberately excluded.
